Art can be a glimpse into the infinite - into ultimate values . The key to understanding any people is in its art : its writing, painting and sculpture. Young sculptor and Malaysia Emerging Artist Award winner 2013, Hilal Mazlan follows the path as the 4th artist to be ushered to the winner’s seat and present his first solo show as one of the MEAA 2013 top 5 winners. Introducing his latest series of wooden kinetic machines ,Hilal hails to the wonderment of the hand is not more sensitive to the beauties of sculpture than the eye. His capability of adding motion, sound and kinetic deviation definitely suggests another exciting talent.

About

MEA Award is a biennial competition that honours the most promising young artists in Malaysia. Its main goal is to recognize the country's top emerging talents and to give them the opportunity to break into the local and international art scenes.

The 5 artists with the highest number of votes from a panel of respected juries will receive cash prize, coucher for art materials, 10-day travel grant to a city in Southeast Asia and a showcase of their works.

MEA Award is organized by HOM and Galeri Chandan.

30 ARTFRIENDS

30 Artfriends is a loose association of 30 art collectors who are joined in friendship by a mutual passion for modern and contemporary Southeast Asian art. The group comprises 15 Malaysian collectors and 15 Singaporean counterparts. They came together to produce a coffee table book entitled 30 Artfriends: Appreciating Southeast Asian Artworks which was launched last year. The publication is an honest depiction of the personal inclinations of each individual collector, and all proceeds from the book sales are contributed or will be contributed to the development of art education and activities in Malaysia and Singapore.
